Abortion has killed more than 44.7-million unborn babies in America,
since being legalized in January 1973.
Abortion will kill another 1.3-million unborn babies in America this
year. One baby is killed by abortion every 20-24 seconds. More than 3,500 babies are
killed every day.
Abortion is the leading cause of death in America, accounting for more
than the next two leading causes of death (heart disease and cancer) combined.
One out of every three pregnancies in American women ends in induced
abortion (abortion received at the mother's request in an abortion clinic).
Almost all abortions (95%) are performed as a means of birth control. Of
the remaining, only 1% are performed for rape or incest and 1% for fetal
abnormalities.
700,000 abortions are performed each year on unborn babies who are 9
weeks or older. By this time in the pregnancy:
The baby's heart is beating;
The baby has measurable brain waves, a functioning stomach, kidney, and liver, and even
fingerprints; and
The baby can feel pain.
Every abortion results in two victims- a dead baby and a wounded mother,
a mother who may bear emotional scars of lifetime remorse and sadness, and such physical
scars as infertility or sterility and, many feel, increased risk for breast cancer.
Abortion cheapens life. At least part of America's increasing violent
disregard for life may be traced to the violent disregard for the lives of unborn
children.
