A Warning from God to Repent?

Was the 9-11 Attack a Warning from God for America to Repent?

Some students of The Bible wonder about the following:

A study of The Bible shows that God is a God of pattern. God-ordained acts performed in the past are often repeated, as though God wants His children to learn from past mistakes and repent.

Many scholars believe that we are living in the end-times (at the end of the Dispensation of Grace). All end-time prophecies necessary for Jesus’ return for His believers (His Church) have been fulfilled since 1948- the aliyah (the rising up of Jews from dispersion in all the nations to return to Israel)- and 1967- Israel’s capture of Jerusalem. Jesus promised that He would return during “the generation” which witnesses such things. Many pre-Tribulation prophecy scholars teach the soon return of Jesus for His Church (Resurrection/ Rapture).

End-time prophecies read like current newspapers. One glaring end-time prophecy omission is noted: America is not mentioned. America’s power seemingly will be assumed by the European Union (the feet and toes of the statue in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream– Daniel, chapter 2). Will America be severely compromised (punished) before the Rapture?

God’s pattern of dealing with people and nations seemingly is this: He issues a warning; followed by a period of grace for repentance; followed by judgment, if repentance does not occur. Were the terrorists’ attacks on the World Trade Center (the symbol of America’s economic power) and the Pentagon (the symbol of America’s military power) on September 11, 2001, God’s warning? Has the terrorism-free interval since these attacks been the period of God’s grace? Since America has not repented, will God’s judgment follow?

If God is about to punish America, could one reason be the shedding of innocent blood in our land through abortion? Of several examples in The Bible, consider the Scripture in Psalm 106:37-42: They even sacrificied their sons and their daughters to demons, and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood. Thus they were defiled by their own works, and played the harlot by their own deeds. Therefore the wrath of the LORD was kindled against His people, so that He abhorred His own inheritance. And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles, and those who hated them ruled over them. Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

America today is polluted with the blood of our sons and daughters. The Bible provides a remedy for blood-polluted land (2 Chronicles 7:14): [The LORD said]: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
