When Does Life Begin? A critical question is: When does human life begin? If the answer is "at birth," abortion is merely a surgical procedure, with no more moral implication than an appendectomy. If the answer is "at conception," abortion is homicide- the willful killing of human life. It is intellectual dishonesty to argue that life begins at any time later than conception, for the following reasons:
All definitions of life which begin at a date later than conception are artificial and arbitrary, and often are proposed only to support the practice of abortion. An argument is made that the unborn baby must depend on his or her mother for support. Is this the definition of life? Every unborn baby has the potential to be born and to grow, eventually becoming a self-supporting, self-sustaining individual independent of his or her mother. Can a comatose patient be killed, based on the argument that he or she must depend upon doctors and nurses for support? Can an anesthetized patient be killed, based on the argument that he or she must depend upon the anesthesiologist for support? Can a severely retarded or handicapped child be killed, based on the argument that he or she must depend upon parents for support? Consider the evidence for yourself, rather than relying upon pro-abortion advocates. The following sites may help you better understand when life begins. Listen to an unborn baby's heartbeat: See four-dimensional ultrasound images of unborn babies: See intrauterine photographs of unborn babies: After you hear a baby's beating heart, see the photographs, and watch moving babies in their mothers' wombs, consider whether these beautiful creations are "choices" (merely clumps of cells), or whether they are babies, fully entitled to life and protection. |
