Prayer and Fasting for Life Initiative

Please join Blount County Right to Life’s prayer and fasting for life initiative. We ask you to add part or all of the following concerns to your daily prayers and, if medically able, join us in fasting (or giving up another pleasurable activity) weekly. We are serious about seeking God on pro-life issues, and we encourage you to join us.

Prayers for Life Issues
Prayer Concerns Sugested Prayer Topics
America, Americans + Pray that Americans will call upon God, humble themselves, ask for forgiveness and healing of guilt, and seek His face (His will) on matters of life.
+ Pray that men and women will be led to cherish and practice sexual purity, avoiding fornication, adultery, and pornography, that the demand for abortion will be reduced.
Pregnant women + Pray that they will be visited in special ways by the Holy Spirit to choose God-honoring alternatives to abortion.
+ Pray that they will be surrounded by family and others, who will support them with love, understanding, and good counsel.
Women who have had abortions + Pray that they will be visited in special ways by the Holy Spirit to seek God's forgiveness; to repent; to experience "the peace that surpasses all understanding," through the certain knowledge that God has forgiven and forgotten their sins and loves them as His daughters.
+ Pray that they will return to full, joyous fellowship with God, their families, and their communities.
Pro-life leaders and organizations, including BCRL and TRTL + Pray that they will receive God's favor in everything they seek to accomplish in defense of life.
+ Pray that much-needed financial support will be made available to these organizations.
BCRL= Blount County Right to Life | TRTL= Tennessee Right to Life, Inc.
Pastors + Pray that they will have the courage to proclaim boldly life-affirming issues: the right to life for all persons (including unborn children); sexual abstinence before marriage; sexual fidelity in marriage; the value of monogamous, heterosexual marriage; and healing of wounded marriages, that families will not be torn apart by divorce.
National elected officials + Pray that they will have the courage to enact life-affirming, life-honoring legislation.
State elected officials + Pray that they will have the courage to enact life-affirming, life-honoring legislation.
+ Pray for passage of Senate Joint Resolution 127 (SJR 127), which would enable Tennesseans to vote in referendum whether to amend the State Constitution and enable reinstatement of Tennessee's abortion protection laws, struck down in 2000 by the Tennessee Supreme Court because the justices claim there is "a right to abortion" in the Constitution.
The courts and the legal system + Pray that the federal and state courts, including the U.S. and Tennessee Supreme Courts, will stop issuing decisions which dishonor God and the family and mock Judeo-Christian values.
+ Pray that God will raise up attorneys who will be effective in opposing the barrage of suits filed by organizations whose goals oppose pro-life values.
+ Pray that organizations in America which promote a culture of death through abortions will be thwarted in all they try to accomplish.
Abortionists and abortion clinic workers + Pray that they will receive salvation in Jesus Christ.
+ Pray that they will use their medical skills only to preserve life, rather than destroy it.
Yourself + Pray that you will always show compassion and love for all persons involved in abortions, including abortionists, abortion clinic workers, and women who are seeking or have had abortions.
+ Pray that you will have the courage to defend boldly the right to life for all persons.
+ Pray that you will have the opportunity to witness to others about God's grace and love, especially the opportunity to witness to pregnant women contemplating abortion.
Other issues + Pray for other life-affirming issues, as you feel led.

Fasting for Life Issues
Will you consider fasting each week? + If you are able,* please fast each Thursday to augment your prayers for life.
+ Jesus said: "... this kind [of supernatural response from God] does not go out except by prayer and fasting." (Matthew 17:21 NKJV)
+ Fasting, a denial of self and a sacrifice, opens a person more to God.
+ Some members of Blount County Right to Life fast each Thursday, as part of their commitment to pray for pro-life concerns.
+ *Important Note: If you have certain medical conditions or are taking certain medications, you should not fast, unless cleared (approved) by your physician. For example, a diabetic taking insulin injections would not be a suitable candidate for fasting. Similarly, a child or a pregnant or lactating (nursing) woman probably would not be a suitable candidate for fasting. You are responsible for determining your suitability (safety) for fasting. There are things other than food that you can deny yourself each Thursday, as you pray for pro-life issues.
+ If you cannot fast a whole day, can you fast one or two meals on Thursday, or give up a favorite food or snack? Or, can you give up a favorite non-food item or activity on Thursday, such as not watching television?
+ If you fast, you will save money by not cooking, eating, or going to a restaurant. Can you donate this saved money to Blount County Right to Life?
+ If you fast, you will save time by not cooking, eating, or going to a restaurant. Can you spend this saved time in prayer?

Please tell us whether it is better to call you in the morning, early afternoon, or evening, and tell us your time zone or location (if you do not live in Blount County). Forward this information to blountcortl@yahoo.com.
