2003-2004 Projects

Projects BCRL plans to sponsor during the year of July 2003 through June 2004 include the following (partial list):

  • Establish Blount Coalition for Life, a coalition of pro-life organizations in Blount County
    STATUS: Completed in August 2003


  • Establish a BCRL Speakers Bureau, to supply a speaker for any church, civic, or community club
    STATUS: Completed in August 2003; now accepting invitations to speak- e-mail request to be contacted about a speaker for your group


  • Sponsor Life Chain Prayer Vigil 2003, a public vigil of Blount County residents standing in prayer for abortions being performed on women in our county and throughout the nation:
    STATUS: Held on the last Sunday of September 2003, with 800 participants; BCRL volunteers dispensed pro-life informational packets to 550 participating families


  • Create a BCRL Web site
    STATUS: Completed in December 2003- A Voice for the Unborn


  • Sponsor Sanctity of Life Sunday in Blount County churches
    STATUS: Completed on January 18, 2004, with numerous Blount County churches participating; informational booklet published and pastors contacted.


  • Sponsor Sanctity of Life Prayer Vigil and Remembrance Service
    STATUS: Completed on January 22, 2004, 7:00 p.m., in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Maryville, Tennessee


  • Circulation of a monthly BCRL electronic newsletter
    STATUS: Circulation of a FREE e-newsletter to subscribers commenced in February 2004. To subscribe, send request, your name, and your e-mail address to BlountCoRTL@yahoo.com


  • Exhibit at Parenting Fair 2004
    STATUS: Exhibit of BCRL's mission and activities at Foothills Mall, Maryville, Tennessee on February 28, 2004


  • Initiate much-needed fund-raising
    STATUS: Donations are slowly increasing over the preceding year, but more funds are needed


  • Sponsor high school pro-life oratory contest, in conjunction with other Tennessee Right to Life county chapters
    STATUS: Scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church, 100 S. Rankin Road (corner of Rankin and Lincoln Roads) Alcoa, Tennessee. The public is invited to the competition. A speech (five to seven minutes in length) on abortion, infanticide, or euthanasia is required. First prizes: $100 for Blount County winner, $500 for state winner (Nashville, Tennessee contest), and $1,000 for national winner (Crystal City, Virginia)


  • Exhibitor at the Men's "Take a Stand" Conference at Restoration International Outreach (RIO), Maryville, Tennessee
    STATUS: BCRL presented an exhibit on April 30 and May 1, 2004, at this two-day conference, designed to urge men to take a stand for God in their families and communities. The exhibit and accompanying literature was entitled, "Abortion: A Man's Issue."


  • Sponsor Mothers’ Day "How Much Do I Love You" advertisement in a local newspaper
    STATUS: Planned for Mothers' Day, May 9, 2004. You may honor or remember your mother in the advertisement for $6.00 per pair of names (your mother's name and your name). Let others know how much you love your mother, that she provided life for you. Approximately sixty mothers are honored in this advertisement in The Daily Times.
  • Double BCRL’s membership
    STATUS: On schedule to double membership this year


  • Support Tennessee Right to Life
    STATUS: Local support of TRTL's statewide efforts this year include
    + Distribution of “Choose Life” license plate applications
    + Notification of members of pending Senate Joint Resolution 127 (SJR 127)


  • Other projects
